The first in what will hopefully be a series of infographics I post here.
I used to buy a mocha every now and then to get my caffeine fix. Little did I know that each mocha was just about the same, calorie-wise, as eating a slice of pizza! I’m happy I’ve switched to black coffee.
All values are approximate, and assume a 16oz. beverage with whipped cream, where applicable.

I don’t think your caffeine amounts are accurate
October 19, 2009 - 1:36 pm
Why do you say that?
October 19, 2009 - 12:40 pm
why would an americano have more calories when all that is added to the coffee is more hot water?
October 19, 2009 - 1:33 pm
That puzzled me, too! I’m not sure, though I’ve taken the calorie values directly from Starbucks’ Web site.
October 22, 2009 - 5:22 pm
it’s because it’s made with shots of espresso, not just plain coffee, and then hot water is added.
October 19, 2009 - 1:16 pm
Wheres the espresso?
October 19, 2009 - 1:35 pm
Ah, that would have been a good one to include, too! Well, it comes in at 5 calories and 75mg of caffeine: http://bit.ly/LAEFS

My favourite is really Folgers. Unfortunately I don’t think its all that possible to find Starbucks in Trinidad, where I live.

I like the graphic deisgn and the info is intresting as well.

Espresso has a lot more ‘oil’ than brewed coffee, hence the tiny bit of caloric content present in espresso and americano’s (the oil is absorbed by paper filters)
October 19, 2009 - 6:13 pm
An Americano is a shot of espresso and water.
That’d be you’re shot of espresso.
October 20, 2009 - 12:13 am
What about the teabag-style Folgers that you can just drop in a microwaved mug of hot water? Would that be the same as brewed? (I’m looking for the maximum yield of caffeine, since 80% of my whole coffee-drinking experience is just that).

Assuming you’re using the “Classic Roast Coffee Singles” — I believe those are meant for 8oz servings, but that has little bearing. They have zero calories, according to Daily Plate! http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/folgers/classic-roast-coffee-singles-6-oz
As for caffeine, I haven’t found any hard data on that, but it’s safe to assume 70-80mg per serving (as is usual with a regular cup of coffee)… so 140-160 per 16oz cup. Though, considering the Starbucks data is more than double that, I’m not entirely sure. I guess the point is you’re getting a decent amount of caffeine and no calories

Good thing I drink decaffeinated coffee.
October 21, 2009 - 5:26 pm
drink beer

I like calories, they’re usually quite tasty.
Coffee, I like it simple: black. A moka pot is what I like to use, or a press if I’m on-the-go.
October 21, 2009 - 8:08 pm
Do you know how many calories come from the whipped cream alone?
October 21, 2009 - 9:02 pm
Truly a lot! Anywhere from 70 to 120, according to Starbucks’ info. But I always used to give in, so I included it

Starbucks coffee has more caffeine because it is a higher quality bean. The darker the roast, the less caffeine so they do lose some there.
October 26, 2009 - 12:32 am
You’d have to roast coffee at a temperature above 470 degrees fahrenheit for it to really lose the caffeine. & no one does that. also, higher quality beans do not translate to more caffeine.
October 22, 2009 - 5:28 pm
I drink more than my fair share of chocolate milk. Maybe I should just switch to pizza.
October 23, 2009 - 4:18 pm
I like my women the way I like my coffee…..Ground up and in the freezer…
October 24, 2009 - 3:00 pm
Sooo….. you’re saying it’s okay to have a candy bar? Thanks for the great graph! Guess I will have to switch back to black coffee or an Americano. or…. I may just stick to my wine! thanks!!
Cheers!

So, it’s settled – black coffee is for when you mean business.
I’d like to see a comparison chart with both Mountain Dew and Ale 81, two old college standbys. The sugar content packs the calories, but the synergy with the caffeine …

Lol, i cant stand starbucks. Their coffee is too bitter because they need to mass produce so much of it, therefor roasting their beans at a higher temp. I wish people would realize that there is actually amazing coffee that taste so smooth and can still be quite dark. If anyone ever comes across Caffe D’arte, try it. Its quite amazing. You’ll never want to go back to that icky cup of quick joe.

I love this, and it confirms that my standard cappuccino is a great choice for overall taste and effectiveness! Great job!

Well, Higher quality bean does not mean higher caffeine, but reverse is true, the best quality coffee arabica bean has least caffeine!
November 2, 2009 - 1:51 am
i did not like the graphic square assigned to me
November 2, 2009 - 10:35 pm
okay … I just came back to this site to read the comments and had to laugh at your “assigned square” comment. I have no idea how my picture got in there…and why I’m the only one. but I think blue looks good on you!
Cheers!
